The SNOREGUARD

The SNOREGUARD is a dental appliance, similar to an orthodontic device or an athletic mouthguard. It is worn during sleep and positions the mandible in such a way as to prevent the soft tissues from collapsing and thereby constricting the airway. The SNOREGUARD is custom made to fit each individual patient and their unique condition.

The major function of this appliance (as with all other snoring devices) is to hold the mandible in a forward and slightly open position. This jaw relation holds the soft tissues forward and away from the throat, thereby reducing or eliminating the snoring habit. Studies have shown that in 98% of the population, the mandible can be extended 5-8mm with no detrimental effects on the joint or musculature. This is normally sufficient advancement to alleviate the snoring habit.

Advantages of The SNOREGUARD

  • It is relatively small and easy to wear. Most patients find it takes no more than a few days to become completely comfortable wearing the appliance.
  • Compared to the cost of alternative treatments, it is relatively inexpensive.
  • Treatment is non-invasive and reversible.
